Soffit
Soffit
Soffit – The under side of the eaves overhang. The panel that encloses the area between the fascia board and the frieze board or exterior wall. The soffit is often vented to allow cooler air to enter as hot air in the attic escapes through the louvers, or other passive or powered vents.
The flat under side of any architectural element such as an arch, beam, stair well, or roof overhang but usually smaller in area than a ceiling.
Any pre-finished vinyl, aluminum, or steel panel installed on the underside of eaves or other architectural elements or on porch ceilings. These soffit panels are usually ribbed or beaded to increase their rigidity and simulate multiple narrow boards on each panel.
