Wood handrail with metal balusters
Balusters – Sometimes referred to as pickets or spindles, are the vertical members in a railing system. They are fastened to the top rail and to a bottom rail, rim joist or stringer. When aluminum balusters are used on treated wood rails they should be secured by utilizing baluster connectors. The primary function of balusters is to provide a safety barrier against falling through the rail. They can also serve as an important aesthetic element in a railing system.
