Girder
Girder – A large or principal beam of wood or steel used to support concentrated loads at isolated points along its length. Wood girders are often made up of several smaller elements, such as strips of ply-wood, OSB or a flitch plate sandwiched between two or more framing members that are nailed or bolted together.
In deck construction a girder, sometimes referred to as a drop girder, may rest upon masonry piers or be bolted to or rest upon treated wood support posts.
