Caulk or Grout

Questions and Answers

caulk questions

Skye asked,

on caulk or grout:

Do you use grout or caulk when a tiled wall meets up with a painted wall corner?

In a bathroom, not in the tub area, but a general wall. One wall will be tiled and one will only be painted.   Which should I use where they meet in the corner? Thanks!

caulking answer Hello Skye,

Because dissimilar materials expand and contract at different rates grout will often crack where it meets a different wall, for this reason caulk is your best option. Use mildew resistant latex caulk.

DO NOT use use silicone as paint will not adhere.

Good luck

Tony
