Power washing with clear water
Hello,
I am interested in power washing with clear water only. Our House, which is a 2 Story has become dingy and has some mildew on two sides. What I want to know is can I bypass the application of detergent and just do the power washing with clear water? . FYI, I did some test and it seemed like it was doing a great job cleaning the House with just Cold Water, but I thought I better ask someone with experience before doing the whole House.
Thanks,

Jeremy,
Power washing with clear water is perfectly fine to remove dust, pollen, and oxidation (chalky residue). Most pressure washers have enough power to rinse light contaminants from the siding. However, proper cleaning of heavily soiled areas and removal of mildew will require more than just power washing with clear water.
Applying detergent such as surf laundry detergent will not only lift the soil better than clear water it will also make rinsing much easier. Mildew stains may be blasted away with clear water but the use of bleach or some other mildew inhibitor will slow it’s recurrence.
Areas low enough to easily reach can be effectively cleaned by power washing with clear water but even commercial pressure washer lack the power to properly clean a two story house without the use of detergent.
