Double pane windows

Double pane windows

Double pane windows – A generic term used to describe any window in which the sashes are constructed using two panes of glass sealed to a spacer that runs continuously around the perimeter of the sashes.  The space between the two panes of glass is often filled with argon, krypton or xenon gas which increases the energy efficiency of the double pane window and eliminates condensation between the panes.  Many modern double pane windows also include glass with a low emissivity (low-E) coating that reduces the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that passes through the glass; thereby reducing fading of curtains or carpets as well as reducing radiant heat buildup.
